Serving tea and refreshments to a guest is an act of hospitality. Over the last five centuries in Japan, the most basic practice of serving tea to guests has become a rich tradition of art, design, and spirituality, called chado — the Way of the Tea. This term, also known as “Japanese Tea Ceremony,” emphasizes that studying tea is an ongoing practice, a way of life, and a means of seeing the word anew.

The Medford Public Library invites families and children ages 6 and up to learn about one of the sustaining roots of Japanese culture from a master of the tea ceremony.
