Medford Jazz Festival Day 1

Saturday, August 19, 2023 @ 12:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Free

The Medford Jazz Festival presents the first of two afternoons of performances at the West Medford Community Center (on the back patio, weather permitting). Today’s lineup features Medford-based trio Cosmica, featuring Brazilian-American singer Catarina “Cat” Lindo, from noon to 12:45 p.m.; Argentinian bassist Fernando Huergo and his jazz ensemble from 1 to 2 p.m.; and the Ally Project, with Medford poet laureate emeritus Terry E. Carter and jazz pianist Jonathan Fagan, from 2:15 to 3:30 p.m.

Admission is free, though donations to support the festival are gratefully accepted.

Day 2 of the festival (Sunday, August 20) at the WMCC will feature Berklee College of Music jazz professor, pianist and arranger Nando Michelin and Brazilian bassist Ebinho Cardoso in their duo ensemble Nando Michelin from 1 to 1:45 p.m.; and Grammy nominated Debo Ray and her All-Star Band from 2 to 3:30 p.m.

Jonathan Fagan launched the Medford Jazz Festival in October 2020 with a five-day event showcasing the cultural diversity, creativity and talent of local musicians through several virtual concerts. In-person jam sessions were initiated in December 2021, and the first in-person Jazz Festival followed in October 2022.
