Makeout Palace, Frogs at Deep Cuts
Deep Cuts presents another Know Your Scene night showcasing local bands, tonight headlined by Makeout Palace. Makeout Palace describes itself as a "band of friends" — Eva Levin (Vocals, Bass) Colin Ratcliff (Guitar) Aidan Shapero (Drums) — "who make music for people to dance to, laugh to, cry to, and kiss to (not necessarily in that order)." Also performing: Frogs. Suggested donation is $5 through Dice.

Arts Collaborative Medford presents its first Poetry and Song Open Mic Nights of the new year, hosted by Medford Poet Laureate Vijaya Sundaram. In conjunction with the current exhibition "Impossible Music," Tufts University Art Galleries is presenting a series of four player piano sessions featuring the boundary-defying work of composer Conlon Nancarrow. Nancarrow was one of the first composers to work with “auto-playing” musical instruments, particularly the player piano, because of its ability to perform scores that exceeded human ability. Multi-instrumentalist Ethan Robbins provides an evening of live music at The Ford Tavern. Robbins plays guitar, violin, mandolin, piano and bass, and sings bluegrass, folk and rock music. He has played with many bands in the Boston area, most recently the Americana group Cold Chocolate. Robbins began his bluegrass career at Oberlin College in Ohio. A founding member of The Outhouse Troubadours, an Oberlin Bluegrass Phenomenon, he began to explore how this hard-driving fast-paced genre could be stretched.
