First Baptist Church of Medford begins its 2023-24 concert season with the return of the Kalliope Reed Quintet, led by bassoonist Natalie Zemba, performing the program “Viva México, Vive les Romantiques.” The first half will be a celebration of Mexican Independence Day with exciting works by four living Mexican composers: Jose Elizondo, Arturo Marquez, Nubia Melina Jaime Donjuan, and Abraham Gomez. The second half will feature something completely different: the beloved Violin Sonata by French Romantic composer Cesar Franck, with guest artist Francine Trester on violin. Concluding the program will be a preview of Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue.”
