Words and Music: Celebrating National Poetry Month

Friday, April 5 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Free

This month’s Words and Music program at the West Medford Community Center celebrates National Poetry Month. In the first hour, host Terry E. Carter, Medford’s first poet laurate; Vijaya Sundaram, Medford’s current poet laurate; and C.D. Collins, Malden’s poet laurate, will talk verse, rhyme and reason in celebration of the lyrical rite of spring.  In the second hour, jazz pianist Jonathan Fagan will team up with Carter representing the Ally Project, their unique music/poetry collaboration of smooth  rhythms and illuminating lyrics that intersects jazz and social justice. The Ally Project recently released its first CD and currently is performing at select venues.

Seating is limited and masks are welcomed. The program also may be viewed live on the Medford Community Media cable access channels 9 (Comcast) and 47 (Verizon), as well as on the WMCC YouTube channel.

The West Medford Community Center launched Words and Music in 2017. Usually presented on the first Friday of every month, the event starts off with a discussion on a valuable aspect of the community, followed by a performance by a local musician or musicians. For more information on this or other WMCC programs, visit the center’s website or call 781-483-3042.
