Words and Music: Poetry and Jazz
Friday, December 6 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
FreePoetry and jazz, Medford style, are featured in this month’s Words and Music program at the West Medford Community Center. In the first hour, host Terry E. Carter, the city’s first poet laureate (2021-23), will share the mic with Vijaya Sundaram, who succeeded him in that role. In a friendly conversation, the two bards will weigh in on various topics and share from their volumes of verse. In the second hour, Medford bandleader Mark Torgerson’s Kadanz Jazz will perform musical tidbits combining America jazz and pop music with French Caribbean rhythms. In addition to Torgenson on guitar, band members are Hilary Noble on percussion/winds, Cornel Coley on percussion, Michael Shea on keyboard, and Galen Willett on bass. The program also will be carried live by Medford Community Media on the city’s cable access stations and live-streamed on the WMCC Facebook page.
The West Medford Community Center launched Words and Music in July 2017. Usually presented on the first Friday of every month, the event starts off with a discussion on a valuable aspect of the community, followed by a performance by a local musician or musicians.
