Women Take the Reel Film Festival: A collection of shorts from the works of Ng’endo Mukii
Presented as part of the Boston Women Take the Reel Film Festival.
Ng’endo Mukii will present a collection of short, animated films spanning a decade of work. She will surface the themes and process of her work, contextualizing them in her heritage as a Kenyan, and her experience as part of the Afro diaspora.
Following the films will be a Q&A discussion with writer and director, Ng’endo Mukii.
Ng’endo Mukii is an animation writer and director, and Professor of the Practice at the SMFA at Tufts. She’s best known for “Enkai”, her Annie Award-winning episode in the Disney+ anthology series Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire.
Her Royal College of Art graduation film, Yellow Fever is a critically acclaimed animated documentary exploring Western influences on African women’s beauty. Her mixed-media and inter-genre approach to film making, gives her an incredibly unique visual language and a preeminent voice in animation.
