Tufts Sunday Concert: Iron River Singers
Sunday, April 7 @ 3:00 pmFree
The Tufts University Sunday Concert Series features a presentation and performance of indigenous music with the Iron River Singers, a well-known northern style indigenous North American singing group. The members are made up of several Native nations including Chippewa, Wampanoag and Abenaki. The original members started singing together when they were between 11 and 13 years old, have performed around the country for over 25 years, and have won many national and international contests. The event will start with an interactive presentation by the group’s director and educator, Chris Newell, to introduce indigenous music to the audience and give key elements to understand its sounds and culture. The Iron River Singers will then perform traditional pow-wow music from the Northeast, punctuated by short explanations. Free to the public with no tickets required.
