Tufts Early Music Ensemble

The Tufts University Early Music Ensemble, under director Jane Hershey, presents the concert “Misterios y pastorelas—Christmas Music from Old and New Spain.”

The joy of Christmas was especially celebrated by both indigenous and colonial musicians in the 16th and 17th century in the Spanish colonies of the New World. The Early Music Ensemble  will present Christmas “villancicos” by the Spanish master Francisco Guerrero, Franco-Flemish works widely performed in the new world, works from New Spain by Juan de Araujo, and from the Codex Martinez. Compañòn. Exuberant music for voices, violas da gamba, violins, and recorders, with guest organist/harpsichordist Frances Conover Fitch and percussionist/recorder player Dan Meyers.
