As it turns out, the sound guy at The Porch Southern Fare & Juke Joint, Hendrik “Henny Rock” Gideonse, has a little band. Coywolf Johnson plays blues, spirituals and protest music. The band’s unusual instrumentation — vocals, bass, drums, fiddle and blues harp — creates a dark, sparse texture perfectly suited to boxcar ghost stories, murder ballads and old testament stories of redemption.
