Author Talk: Mike Curato
Thursday, October 10 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
FreeThe Medford Public Library and Royall House & Slave Quarters invite you to a conversation with the novelist Michael Curato about his award- winning book, “Flamer.” Set in 1995 at a Boy Scouts summer camp, “Flamer” tells the story of Aiden, a 14-year-old who is on a journey of figuring out himself and his sexuality. Semi-autobiographical, Curato’s courageous book was met with controversy, topping many banned book lists. Join Curato for an intimate discussion about the importance of telling queer and BIPOC stories and the fight to bring awareness to the banning of books in schools and libraries. The discussion will be followed by audience Q&A and light refreshments provided by Boukan’nen (a local Black-owned business). Free giveaways will be provided to the first 25 guests who arrive, and book signing will occur at the event’s end. Registration is required through the library’s online calendar.
