The Medford Historical Society & Museum presents author Anthony Sammarco for a talk at the library on his book “Inferno: The Great Boston Fire of 1872.” The fire destroyed 65 acres of land in Boston, from Washington Street, between Summer and Milk Streets, fanning eastward toward the wharves projecting into Boston Harbor. The fire is said to have destroyed 776 buildings in Boston’s downtown, causing of $73 million in damage ($1.682 billion in 2022 dollars) and killing an estimated 20 people, leading to stricter building regulations in Boston.
