Words and Music: National Poetry Month

Friday, April 5, 2019 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Free

The West Medford Community Center presents its monthly “Words and Music” program, celebrating National Poetry Month. It will be an evening of conversation, spoken word and personal reflections focused on the country’s annual love affair with all things poetic.

The “Words” portion of the evening will feature a conversation with Max Heinegg, an English instructor at Medford High School, and several young poets/spoken word artists about why and how their lives are impacted by reading, writing, exploring and sharing this unique and compelling literary art form.

For the “Music” portion of the evening, West Medford’s own “poet laureate” Terry E. Carter will bring his signature brand of life-inspired verse to the floor, joined by a trio of musicians: Rich “Doc Fibes” Lawrence on keys, Nate Stringfield on drums, and Elbert Vines on bass. Carter will share poetry from each of his four “Brown-Skin” series books — verse that provokes, connects and inspires. The jazzy combination of powerful lyrics and perfect beats is sure to leave an indelible impression. Books will be available for sale and signing.

The Community Center launched Words and Music in 2017. Usually presented on the first Friday of every month, the event starts off with a discussion on a valuable aspect of the community, followed by a performance by a local musician or musicians. For more information on this and other events, visit the WMCC website or call the center at 781-483-3042.
