Words and Music: Celebrating Black History Month

Friday, February 9, 2024 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Free

The West Medford Community Center kicks off Year 8 of its Words and Music program with a Black History Month celebration. In the first hour, host Terry E. Carter will sit down with a panel of three new Black authors with local ties and unique stories to tell. They are Natascha Faye Saunders (“The Thesis: Krumboltz, Career Decision-Making, and METCO”), Sybil J. Gilchrist (“Comrades of World War I”), and Jameel Anne Johnson (“The Mumtaz Chronicles: The Women Who Rule”). The second hour will feature musical performances by songstress Stacie Clayton accompanied by Jenny Bonham-Carter.

The West Medford Community Center launched Words and Music in 2017. Usually presented on the first Friday of every month, the event starts off with a discussion on a valuable aspect of the community, followed by a performance by a local musician or musicians.

Seating is limited and masks are welcomed. The program also may be viewed live on the Medford Community Media cable access channels 9 (Comcast) and 47 (Verizon), as well as on the West Medford Community Center’s YouTube channel.
