The Future of Libraries and Archives

Thursday, April 27, 2023 @ 7:00 pm

Free

The Medford Public Library invites you to join David Ferriero, former archivist of the United States, and Marjorie Bloomberg Tiven of Bloomberg Philanthropies for a conversation about the role and future of libraries and archives. Today more than ever, these institutions are essential, preserving intellectual freedom, providing access to information, and preserving history.

Ferriero was the 10th archivist of the United States, serving from 2009 to 2022. Before joining the National Archives, he served as the Andrew W. Mellon Director of the New York Public Libraries. He previously worked at MIT and at Duke University.

Tiven, a Medford native, is the founder and president of Global Cities, Inc., a program of Bloomberg Philanthropies, working in more than 50 urban public school districts worldwide. Under Tiven’s leadership, more than 105,000 students — including several hundred Medford seventh graders — have interacted with each other in digital classrooms. She formerly was the mayoral representative on the board of the New York Public Library and currently serves on the board of the National Archives Foundation.

Register through the library’s online calendar to be assured of a seat.
