Juneteenth Flag Raising and Celebration

Tuesday, June 18 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Free

All are invited to the City of Medford’s Juneteenth flag raising and celebration on the front lawn at Medford City Hall. Juneteenth, now a federal holiday, commemorates the emancipation of American slaves in the last Confederate territory of the U.S. on June 19, 1865 in Galveston, Texas. Today’s keynote speaker will be Dr. Joyya Smith, Vice President for Diversity, Access and Inclusion at Suffolk University. The program also will include poetry by Vijaya Sundaram, the city’s poet laureate, and music by the Glen David Andrews Band. Food will be provided by the Neighborhood Kitchen.
