All are invited to the City of Medford’s Juneteenth flag raising on the front lawn at at Medford City Hall. Juneteenth, now a federal holiday, commemorates the emancipation of American slaves in the last Confederate territory of the U.S. on June 19, 1865 in Galveston, Texas. Speakers will be Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn and Terry E. Carter, who this month completes his term as the city’s first poet laureate. There also will be music by singer Linda Morose and pianist Jonathan Fagan.

The West Medford Community Center will host a Juneteenth Celebration from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 17.
