Does the Land Remember? Book Signing & Artist Talk with Maya Tihtiyas Attean
Join Palm Press and Wych Elm Press for a book signing and artist talk with Maya Tihtiyas Attean celebrating Does the Land Remember?, a photographic exploration of the Wabanaki landscape and the relationship between land, history, and identity.
Rooted in Wabanaki history and culture, Attean’s work examines the lasting effects of colonization, displacement, and land loss while honoring Wabanaki resilience. Through photography, personal narrative, and engagement with the landscape as both witness and archive, the project invites reflection on memory, ownership, ecology, and cultural balance.
Maya Tihtiyas Attean is a Wabanaki (Penobscot and Passamaquoddy) artist raised on the Penobscot Reservation. Her work explores ancestry, resilience, and connection to the natural world. She earned her BFA in Photography from Maine College of Art & Design and is currently an MFA Photography candidate at Yale University. Her work is held in the permanent collections of the Portland Museum of Art, the Abbe Museum, and the Bates College Museum of Art.
