Black Patriots of Lexington: Silas Burdoo
Wednesday, May 7 @ 6:00 pm
FreeThe West Medford Community Center invites you to a screening of the Silas Burdoo episode of the program “Black Patriots of Lexington,” followed by a Q&A. Produced by the Association of Black Citizens of Lexington, the program explores the often overlooked role of Black men and women, like third-generation Lexington resident Silas Burdoo, played in the Revolutionary War. Burdoo was an active combatant on April 19, 1775. He was a grandson of Ann and Philip Burdoo, who were married in Medford in 1704 and afterward purchased 40 acres of land in Cambridge Farms. Yeoman Silas Burdoo is believed to have become the wealthiest of the Black veterans who fought on April 19, 1775. Presenters during the Q&A will be Dr. Zine Magubane, PhD, Boston College historical sociology professor; Stacey Fraser, Assistant Curator, Scottish Rite Masonic Museum & Library; and Sean D. Osborne, public historian and producer of the “Black Patriots of Lexington” YouTube series. RSVP through Eventbrite. The West Medford Community Center will host a similar program at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, featuring a program on another Lexington military patriot, Eli Burdoo.
