The Medford Public Library's art exhibit for May will feature works by collage and quilt artist Rita Ortolino-Dioguardi. Rita has been creating collage art since a young girl. What started as childhood art projects has bloomed into unique and colorful pieces of art. These stunning images are spontaneous creations. Her paper collages are created by ripping, not cutting, simple splashes of color from magazines and glossy advertisements, and her quilts are born from simple scraps of material. The Medford Public Library is offering a Creative Music Workshop for kids ages 8 to 12. From trying out a couple instruments (and yes, voice counts!) to basic improv song creation and more, you’ll get to make your own kind of music at this music workshop. All skill levels welcome. May is Arts Month at the Medford Public Schools, and a series of events celebrating the fine and performing arts kicks off tonight with a performance by the grades 4 through 12 bands at Chevalier Theatre. Tickets are $10 per person (children under age 6 admitted free) with a family maximum of $40 (up to eight members).

The Medford Public Library presents its monthly Teen Creative Writing session in the Teen Section of the Charlotte & William Bloomberg Library building. Today's session will focus on flash fiction. Teens in middle school and high school are invited to create characters, build new worlds, write short stories, try new styles, play games, and more. Coywolf Johnson, led by guitarist and singer Hendrik (Henny) Gideonse, is back for their first Wednesday residency performing spirituals and blues at The Porch. The band also features Mark Hobbs on guitar and voice, Mike Sax on horns, and Rick Forzese on drums. Free admission for the music; table reservations recommended if you plan to have dinner.
