DESCRIPTION:The West Medford Community Center is getting into the fall spirit with an Apple Butter Fest not only with apple butter making\, but also live music\, a petting zoo\, and other activities. Learn about growing and preserving food as you join in on apple butter making\, and take some home at the end of the event. Singer/songwriter/musician and Medford native Michael Maloney of the Celtic and Irish-American band the Boston Harbor Bhoys will perform solo from noon to 2 p.m. The McDonny’s Traveling Farm petting zoo will be open from 3 to 5 p.m. Admission is free to West Medford Community Center members; a $25 donation is suggested for non-members. \n

SUMMARY:Words and Music: Rick Caraviello and Farayi Malek
DESCRIPTION:The West Medford Community Center’s Words and Music program will feature an interview with Medford mayoral candidate Rick Caraviello\, and a musical performance by singer/songwriter Farayi Sophia Malek. Caraviello is a 12-year veteran of the Medford City Council. In the program’s first hour\, host Terry E. Carter will conduct a conversation with him about his family\, community\, and his Medford roots. In the second hour\, Malek will feature her musical repertoire\, which includes influences from gospel\, pop and jazz. The principal vocalist for the Danilo Perez’s Grammy Award-winning Global Messengers band\, Malek also is an instructor at Berklee College of Music. \nSeating is limited and masking is welcomed. The program also will be carried live on the Medford Community Media YouTube channel\, and on MCM community access television (Ch. 9-Comcast\, Ch. 47-Verizon). \nPlease note that the guest for the November 3 edition of Words and Music will be Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn\, who is running for re-election against Rick Caraviello. \nThe West Medford Community Center launched Words and Music in 2017. There was interest in developing a wide range of services and recreational opportunities. SUMMARY:Words and Music: A Changing of the Guard
DESCRIPTION:The West Medford Community Center begins a new season of its Words and Music program with “A Changing of the Guard\,” introducing the City of Medford’s second poet laureate\, Vijaya Sundaram\, who began her two-year term on July 1. In the first hour’s Words segment\, Vijaya will join her predecessor\, Terry E. Carter\, for a lively and lyrical conversation about her life as a teacher\, artist\, musician\, writer\, and the city’s new ambassador of poetry. \nThe Music segment will feature a performance by Erin Hogan\, a singer\, songwriter and musician whose extensive training includes heavy influences in classical music\, opera\, jazz\, folk\, and the Great American Songbook. She’ll be accompanied in her first WMCC appearance by bassist Ike Sturm. \nSeating is limited and masking is welcomed.
