SUMMARY:Celebrating America's 250th: Two Nerdy History Girls Discuss Everyday Life in 1776 (Zoom Program)
DESCRIPTION:We’re at it again! We keep having so much fun with Loretta and Susan that we had to keep bringing them back for encore performances. And\, this time\, they are focusing on the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. They are so knowledgeable about the everyday lives of people who lived through this era as well as how war could upend those lives. We know that\, as always\, we’ll have a great conversation and learn so much about how this historic happening affected every aspect of people’s lives. \n  \nYou know them as the Two Nerdy History Girls – authors Loretta Chase and Susan Holloway Scott were the originators of the infamous blog. We\, once again\, have Loretta and Susan here to answer all of our burning questions about the 250th. How do they do their research\, how much of it comes out of their visits to Colonial Williamsburg\, and how do they incorporate their knowledge into their writing? We can’t wait for what we know is going to be a fascinating conversation between these two friends and researchers. \n  \nClick here to register for this program! \nAbout the presenters: \nLoretta Chase has worked in academe\, retail\, and the visual arts\, as well as on the streets—as a meter maid—and in video\, as a scriptwriter. She might have developed an excitingly checkered career had her spouse not nagged her into writing fiction. Her bestselling historical romances\, set in the Regency and Romantic eras of the early nineteenth century\, have won a number of awards\, including the Romance Writers of America’s RITA® and Vivian®. For more about her past\, her books\, and what she does and doesn’t do on social media\, please visit her website. \nSusan Holloway Scott is the author of over fifty historical novels and novellas. Her bestselling books have received numerous awards and honors\, and with more than four million copies of her books in print\, she has been published in nineteen foreign countries around the world. She has also written under the pseudonyms Isabella Bradford and Miranda Jarrett. \nSusan is a graduate of Brown University\, and lives with her family in a book-filled house outside of Philadelphia\, PA. \nCheck out the previous posts on Two Nerdy History Girls Blog! \nPlease register for this event and you’ll receive the link in the confirmation and reminder emails – make sure to check your spam folder for them\, the email will be coming from Zoom. Due to limited space\, if you know you cannot make it live do not register with zoom but please fill out this form to receive the video link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfyq2AmqS0ZCs9t_9Ck4D2B2jtX9MHnd6oTMUqMO1IHw7jNjg/viewform \nThis program is sponsored by the Friends of the Ashland Public Library and we’re thrilled to be collaborating with a multitude of MA Libraries to bring this program to our communities. We are also pleased to be partnering with the Ashland Senior Center for this event. \nThe library strives to be open and accessible for all. If you need accommodations to attend this program\, please be sure to register. There is a follow-up question that will help us understand how we can include you in our programs.

SUMMARY:Virtual Author Talk: E.C. Hanson
DESCRIPTION:The Medford Public Library is co-sponsoring an online program with true crime writer E.C. Hanson\, who will speak about his latest book\, “Dead End Road.” In June 1977\, Renee Freer\, nicknamed Giggles\, went out to play with her friends. A few hours later\, she was found bludgeoned to death with a rock. In a true crime book unlike most\, E.C. Hanson stumbles upon an unsolved murder case that haunted his former stepfather. Unable to get specifics from the old and new guard of detectives\, Hanson forges ahead\, mining what he can from previously released articles and people who lived in the neighborhood at the time. An unusual yet passionate text\, “Dead End Road” honors Renee Freer’s memory and asks how will you help? Register for the Zoom program using the link on the library’s online calendar. \n  \n

SUMMARY:No More Curse! A History of the Red Sox
DESCRIPTION:The Medford Public Library is co-sponsoring an online program\, “No More Curse! A History of the Red Sox” with author and historian David Kruh. Based on his research for his musical “The Curse is Reversed!” (originally titled “The Curse of the Bambino” when it premiered in 2001)\, Kruh will take you to the roots of Boston baseball\, when\, just like today\, the team captured the hearts of the people of Boston. He’ll look back at the real story behind Harry Frazee and his sale of slugger Babe Ruth. Relive the (sometimes frustrating) saga of the Boston Red Sox and their ultimately successful struggle for a World Series championship. SUMMARY:Faith and Film Circle: Conclave
DESCRIPTION:Sanctuary United Church of Christ and Hillside Community Church present a virtual edition of their Faith and Film series\, featuring “Conclave.” The highly acclaimed 2024 film stars Ralph Fiennes\, Stanley Tucci\, John Lithgow\, Sergio Castellitto and Isabella Rossellini\, locked in a secretive process of choosing the next pope — where every choice carries unseen consequences. An engrossing and thought-provoking spiritual and political thriller\, “Conclave” will challenge you to reflect on leadership\, discernment\, faith\, and the moral weight of power. \nWatch the film on your own schedule and streaming service\, then join an online discussion on its themes of secrecy\, doubt\, justice\, grace\, and the hidden forces that shape leadership. Find the Zoom link on the event web page. \nSanctuary UCC began Faith and Film in 2016 to explore the places where pop culture meets faith. Attendees watch a current film\, followed by a discussion about themes of morality\, faith\, and humanity led by local theologians and community leaders.
