SUMMARY:Artist Talk: Suzanne Révy - A Murmur in the Trees
DESCRIPTION:Palm Press Bookstore\, which recently opened in Medford Square\, presents an artist talk and book signing featuring photographer Suzanne Révy and her new book “A Murmur in the Trees.” Wandering in the footsteps of the transcendental writers in Concord\, Massachusetts\, Révy witnessed nature unfurling through the seasons. She formed a physical and psychological bond with a place steeped in rich history. Her multiple panel landscape pictures echo with literary myth and personal memory. Employing folded paper and incorporating sentence fragments from Henry David Thoreau\, “A Murmur in the Trees” invites readers to contemplate the meditative power of perception and observation by revealing the remarkable colors and textures of nature. In her talk\, Révy will discuss the making of the photographs\, as well as the logistics and stylistic choices made in designing and printing the book. A special edition of the book\, encased in a box and accompanied by a signed and editions pigment print\, will be available\, and a selection of images will be on view and for sale on Palm Press’s gallery wall. \nRévy earned a BFA in photography from the Pratt Institute where she was immersed in making and printing black and white photographs. Following art school she worked as a photography editor for U.S. News & World Report magazine and later as acting picture editor for Yankee magazine. Her work has been shown at the Newport (R.I.) Art Museum\, the Griffin Museum of Photography in Winchester\, the Fitchburg Art Museum\, the Danforth Art Museum in Framingham\, and other venues. She teaches at Clark University in Worcester. \nPalm Press Bookstore features more than 1\,000 used photobooks curated from the collection of owner Gus Kayafas\, as well as a selection of new books from an expanding list of publishers such as Stanley/Barker\, MACK\, Steidl\, Eakins Press\, MoMA and more.
