SUMMARY:Does the Land Remember? Book Signing & Artist Talk with Maya Tihtiyas Attean
DESCRIPTION:Join Palm Press and Wych Elm Press for a book signing and artist talk with Maya Tihtiyas Attean celebrating Does the Land Remember?\, a photographic exploration of the Wabanaki landscape and the relationship between land\, history\, and identity. \nRooted in Wabanaki history and culture\, Attean’s work examines the lasting effects of colonization\, displacement\, and land loss while honoring Wabanaki resilience. Through photography\, personal narrative\, and engagement with the landscape as both witness and archive\, the project invites reflection on memory\, ownership\, ecology\, and cultural balance. \nMaya Tihtiyas Attean is a Wabanaki (Penobscot and Passamaquoddy) artist raised on the Penobscot Reservation. Her work explores ancestry\, resilience\, and connection to the natural world. She earned her BFA in Photography from Maine College of Art & Design and is currently an MFA Photography candidate at Yale University. Her work is held in the permanent collections of the Portland Museum of Art\, the Abbe Museum\, and the Bates College Museum of Art.

SUMMARY:Voracious Looking: A Panel Discussion
DESCRIPTION:Join Palm Press for Voracious Looking: Research\, Photography & Books\, a panel discussion featuring photographers Claire Beckett\, S. Billie Mandle\, and Lisa McCarty. The conversation will explore how historical research\, close observation\, and sustained inquiry shape each artist’s photographic practice. Gmail – Thursday 10:8: Voraciou… \nRather than focusing on the quick instincts of the photographic “decisive moment\,” these artists work through a more reflective and research-driven process\, allowing photographs to lead them toward new questions\, sources\, and subjects. Gmail – Thursday 10:8: Voraciou… \nFeatured work includes Claire Beckett’s Defense Language\, which examines American depictions of Arabs and Muslims during counterinsurgency training; S. Billie Mandle’s projects documenting landscapes\, literary spaces\, and church confessionals; and Lisa McCarty’s Transcendental Concord\, centered on the homes and surroundings of major Concord writers and thinkers. Gmail – Thursday 10:8: Voraciou… Gmail – Thursday 10:8: Voraciou… \nRefreshments will be served.

SUMMARY:Greg Miller ft. ‘Morning Bus’: Q+A & Book Signing
DESCRIPTION:Inspired by the tragic events at Sandy Hook Elementary in 2012\, Greg Miller captures children waiting for the morning school bus in his Connecticut community. These everyday moments—ordinary yet profound—become symbols of trust\, innocence\, and the silent anxiety carried by parents across the nation. Through intimate portraits\, Miller reflects on the unsettling reality that each goodbye at the bus stop is tinged with uncertainty. His images\, taken over a decade\, underscore the cyclical nature of violence and the quiet resilience of childhood. Morning Bus is more than a photographic series; it is a deeply personal exploration of love\, loss\, and the fragile line between safety and tragedy in contemporary America. \nThis will be our last bookstore event before we take a little summer break! We hope you can join us.

SUMMARY:Where The Light Came In: Judith Black Book Signing and Q&A
DESCRIPTION:The most consequential moments are rarely dramatic. What stays with us\, what makes us feel truly seen\, is often small\, domestic\, and endlessly repeated. Judith Black’s photographs\, made at home in the early 1980s of her four young children and their stepfather\, remind us of this simple truth. \nIn 1980\, after a divorce\, Judith moved her family to Cambridge\, Massachusetts\, and took a job at the darkroom at MIT. Their home wasn’t grand\, but it was theirs\, a place to begin again. Not long after settling in\, they found a worn old armchair left on the side of the road and gave it a place by the window. It became a spot of rest and quiet theatre\, a vantage point from which Judith watched her children grow\, day by day\, frame by frame. \nThis new book gathers every photograph she made of that single chair. What begins as cast-off furniture becomes\, through her attentive eye\, a kind of threshold: a simple thing that holds a whole world. There is a truth here that is easy to overlook\, that by staying close to the ordinary\, by returning to the same corner of a room\, we might learn to see more clearly. And that the measure of a life is so often found not in grand gestures\, but in the worn fabric of a chair\, the shifting light\, the hush of children growing older under our watch.

SUMMARY:Artist Talk: Suzanne Révy - A Murmur in the Trees
DESCRIPTION:Palm Press Bookstore\, which recently opened in Medford Square\, presents an artist talk and book signing featuring photographer Suzanne Révy and her new book “A Murmur in the Trees.” Wandering in the footsteps of the transcendental writers in Concord\, Massachusetts\, Révy witnessed nature unfurling through the seasons. She formed a physical and psychological bond with a place steeped in rich history. Her multiple panel landscape pictures echo with literary myth and personal memory. Employing folded paper and incorporating sentence fragments from Henry David Thoreau\, “A Murmur in the Trees” invites readers to contemplate the meditative power of perception and observation by revealing the remarkable colors and textures of nature. In her talk\, Révy will discuss the making of the photographs\, as well as the logistics and stylistic choices made in designing and printing the book. A special edition of the book\, encased in a box and accompanied by a signed and editions pigment print\, will be available\, and a selection of images will be on view and for sale on Palm Press’s gallery wall. \nRévy earned a BFA in photography from the Pratt Institute where she was immersed in making and printing black and white photographs.
