DESCRIPTION:Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn and the city Recreation Department present the city’s annual Winter Extravaganza at Medford City Hall. Support and shop 50-plus handmade artists at the 4GoodVibes Boutique; decorate cookies or make a gingerbread house; create crafts with the Medford Family Network and Medford Girl Scouts; visit the opening day of the Jingle Bell Festival’s Holiday Tree Display in the Alden City Council Chambers; purchase a holiday wreath from the Medford Boy Scouts; visit with “Toy Story” characters; and grab some food\, or a drink at the beer garden. There also will be a pantry food drive and a Toys for Tots drop box. Rain date is Thursday\, November 30.

DESCRIPTION:The Medford Jingle Bell Festival\, celebrating its 23rd year\, opens its five-day Holiday Tree Display in the Alden Chambers at Medford City Hall. Many businesses\, organizations and residents of Medford donate uniquely decorated holiday trees\, which are part of a raffle that raises funds to support Medford community organizations. Other raffle prizes include TVs\, bicycles\, scratch tickets\, and more. Trees may be viewed from noon to 8 p.m. on Wednesday\, November 29; noon to 7 p.m. on Thursday\, November 30; 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday\, December 1; 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday\, December 2; and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday\, December 3. SUMMARY:Medford Poet Laureate Installation
DESCRIPTION:The City of Medford invites the community to the installation of its second poet laureate\, Vijaya Sundaram\, at a ceremony at City Hall. The program will include a reading from Sundaram and a special farewell poem from Medford’s inaugural Poet Laureate\, Terry E. Carter. Medford High student Rikita Bk\, first-place winner of the Medford Public Schools Poetry Contest\, will also give a reading. Originally from India\, Sundaram moved to the U.S. in 1988 and is a longtime Medford resident. She previously was a public school teacher in Winchester and is now an assistant professor at Bunker Hill Community College. Her term as poet laureate will extend through June 2025. \nThe poet laureate\, acting as the official city poet\, highlights poets\, poetry\, and literature\, particularly working with community members who may traditionally have less access to poetry. Working with the city administration and the Medford Arts Council\, the poet laureate  strives to increase access to senior citizens\, youth\, and non-English speakers across various platforms. \nSundaram also will be performing her poetry along with Medford clarinet player Glenn Dickson at the Medford Farmers Market on Thursday\, August 10\, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Condon Band Shell park. \n  \n
