SUMMARY:Lessons in Drag With LaWhore Vagistan
DESCRIPTION:The Tufts Department of Theatre\, Dance\, and Performance Studies presents Lessons in Drag With LaWhore Vagistan. Dr. Vagistan\, your favorite South Asian drag auntie\, brings the nightclub to the classroom (and vice versa) to explain how critical social theory matters in queer nightlife. Touching on themes that include globalization\, feminist theory\, and islamophobia\, she stages the nightclub as a site of politics and pleasure. Part lecture\, part lipsync\, part audience participation\, the show demonstrates how much drag teaches us\, even requires us\, to be in relation with the rest of the world. With opening act Boudoir de Beauvoir. The event is free and open to the public; tickets may be reserved online through Tufts Ticketing.

SUMMARY:And Then They Came for Me: Remembering the World of Anne Frank
DESCRIPTION:The Tufts University Department of Theatre\, Dance\, and Performance Studies presents a staged reading of “And Then They Came for Me: Remembering the World of Anne Frank\,” one of several “remembrance readings” coordinated by the National Jewish Theatre Foundation to commemorate International Holocaust Remembrance Day. “And Then They Came for Me \,” written by James Still\, is a play about the impact of the Holocaust on four teenagers – Anne Frank\, Ed Silverberg\, Eva Geiringer Schloss and her older brother Heinz Geiringer – as their families struggled to escape Nazi persecution. Based on Still’s interviews with survivors Schloss and Silverberg in the 1990s\, “And Then They Came for Me” is a memory play in which “Adult Eva” and “Adult Ed” recount their shared history\, while their younger selves and other characters re-create the traumatic events they experienced in Europe from 1938 to 1945. A talk-back with members of the cast and director Dr. Barbara Wallace Grossman (former member\, U.S. Holocaust Memorial Council) will follow the performance. Admission is free; reserve a ticket through the Tufts online box office. \n

SUMMARY:Marie Antoinette
DESCRIPTION:The Tufts University Department of Theatre\, Dance\, and Performance Studies presents the last of six performances of “Marie Antoinette\,” David Adjmi’s contemporary take on the young queen of France\, directed by Noe Montez. Marie is a confection created by a society that values extravagance and artifice. But France’s love affair with the royals sours as revolution brews\, and for Marie\, the political suddenly becomes very personal. From the light and breezy banter at the palace to the surging chants of “Liberté\, Egalité\, Fraternité!” in the streets\, Marie Antoinette holds a mirror up to our contemporary society that might just be entertaining itself to death. \nTickets for the public are $1 to 20 (“Pay What You Can”) through the Tufts online box office. \n
