We’ll cover essential techniques such as folding\, binding\, and clamping to create unique designs\, along with tips for caring for your dyed pieces at home. \nNo prior experience is needed—just bring your curiosity and a willingness to experiment. SUMMARY:Backstrap Weaving Workshop (2 sessions)
DESCRIPTION:The backstrap loom is one of the most ancient types of weaving technology\, and is still practiced in cultures all over the world today. This method requires only very simple tools\, but can create an enormous variety of textiles. For modern day crafters\, it combines versatility with portability and low cost – the perfect way to try out weaving when you don’t have space for a big loom!\nIn this class\, we will learn the basic mechanics of using a backstrap loom to produce a warp-faced project. We’ll go through all the steps\, starting with winding the warp and setting up the heddles\, to troubleshooting as you weave. All materials and equipment will be provided\, and you can even keep your loom after the class ends. \nMin/Max Attendees: 4 min\, 12 max \nAges 12+ with an adult. \nEmily O’Brien is a maker and musician. In addition to performing and teaching on the recorder\, she makes instrument cases and bike bags – and has never met a craft she doesn’t like! As you discover new ways to play with music all week long\, you’ll be supporting your child’s music-learning and overall development—even if you don’t think of yourself as a great singer or dancer. \nWhy mixed ages?\nChild development researchers discovered that grouping children of different ages in one class encourages natural\, family-style learning\, so Music Together developed the Mixed-Age Music Class. In this class\, everyone participates at their own levels: babies vocalize\, listen\, and observe; toddlers play and experiment; and preschoolers build confidence as they emerge as classroom leaders. For over 25 years\, West Medford Open Studios created a widely anticipated annual event that delighted residents and visitors. This event strengthened our city and provided access to artists and creativity in homes and community spaces. \nNow\, continuing that great tradition\, Arts Collaborative Medford invites you to the first Medford Open Studios–as we expand it to include neighborhoods throughout the City. \nMOS will provide a self-guided tour of artist studios and community spaces in Medford. MOS will span visual\, spoken word\, and musical creativity. In addition to community spaces\, artists will open their own homes for the event. All event spaces will be free and welcoming to the general public. \nArtists: Heads Up! An online application is being prepared\, and we will roll it out within the next few weeks. Watch this space!!

DESCRIPTION:Each week in Music Together® Mixed-Age Classes at Joyful Music\, babies\, toddlers\, preschoolers\, and the grownups who love them® gather for 45 minutes of fun-filled family music time. Your teacher will lead you and the other families in music activities ranging from lullabies to full-on jam sessions (with child-friendly instruments\, of course!). It’s so much fun you won’t realize how much learning is taking place! \nYou’ll take home the award-winning music used in class\, along with an illustrated songbook and other resources. As you discover new ways to play with music all week long\, you’ll be supporting your child’s music-learning and overall development—even if you don’t think of yourself as a great singer or dancer. \nWhy mixed ages?\nChild development researchers discovered that grouping children of different ages in one class encourages natural\, family-style learning\, so Music Together developed the Mixed-Age Music Class. In this class\, everyone participates at their own levels: babies vocalize\, listen\, and observe; toddlers play and experiment; and preschoolers build confidence as they emerge as classroom leaders. Grownups are happy because everyone can come to class together!
