SUMMARY:Artrepreneurs Youth Art Sale
DESCRIPTION:The Mystic Project invites you to an art sale showcasing the work of participants in the Mystic Project’s Artrepreneurs Youth program. Artrepreneurs Youth is a weekly afterschool program where youth harness their creative skills to recycle and repurpose waste materials into saleable art\, while learning about conservation\, and entrepreneurship skills. This year\, the Artrepreneurs are venturing into the world of art kits; their curiosity has stimulated new interests in learning how to assemble at-home DIY crafting kits\, repurposing materials\, preparing written and digital tutorials\, and creating marketing materials for advertising. Come browse their creations in the library’s Bonsignore Hall. There will be DIY kits for children to paint their own faux stone vases\, handmade cards and dried flower arrangements that make perfect and affordable Mother’s Day gifts. \n

SUMMARY:Mystic Project JustFlix Screening
DESCRIPTION:The Mystic Project invites you to the second public screening of works from its JustFlix program\, in which youth participants from the Medford Housing Authority learn the art of modern storytelling by creating digital videos on cell phones\, telling their stories of social justice\, community justice\, and beyond. The films\, to be shown from 6:15 to 7 p.m.\, reflect on the interplay between the participant’s experiences\, their ideas of justice\, and the strengths of their community. \nThe second part of the program\, from 7 to 8 p.m.\, will feature “Sankofa vs. Veritas\,” a talk by Tamara Lanier\, the plaintiff in the Lanier v. Harvard reparations lawsuit. In that case\, the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court held that Lanier\, seeking possession from Harvard of daguerreotypes of her enslaved ancestors\, was not entitled to possessory rights to the images\, despite plausibly alleging tort claims for emotional distress. \nThe nonprofit Mystic Project’s highest priority is to promote equitable initiatives that expand opportunities for membership and participation for all members in the community to be leaders and change makers. Recognizing\, reinforcing\, and celebrating the healthy\, thriving\, and diverse community where we live is its goal. In addition to JustFlix\, The Mystic Project runs Artrepreneurs\, a program in which Medford Housing Authority youth create artwork from recycled materials and then market their wares\, and the Moments in Medford Calendar project. \n  \n
