DESCRIPTION:Down By Riverside\, Inc.\, and Arts Collaborative Medford invite you to Professor Harp’s Classic Blues & Rock ‘n’ Roll Potluck. Although born and raised as Hugh Holmes of Boston\, the emanations from his harmonica and vocals make it clear that Professor Harp has the blues of Texas and the whole wide Delta coursing through his veins. The Professor was a rock ‘n’ roll drummer until 1969\, when the Boston blues revival and a sterling performance he caught of blues harmonica great George Allen “Harmonica” Smith combined to lure him away from drums and into a full-court press on the blues harp. All these years later\, Professor Harp puts forth his commanding presence and exceptional talent\, night after night. This potluck concert is a Pay-What-You-Can show; tickets are free\, but the organizers ask each person to donate to help pay for event expenses if they can. SUMMARY:The Jam Down By Riverside
DESCRIPTION:Arts Collaborative Medford is hosting its first Jam Down By Riverside\, a direct descendent of the now defunct Blues Jam at the Porch Southern Fare & Juke Joint\, which was a descendant of the Johnny D’s blues jam. Presented by the Medford nonprofit Down By Riverside\, Inc.\, the Jam is for building community and building skills. People of all ages\, abilities\, styles and instruments are welcome to join in the jamming. There is not a strict blues-only jam rule\, but probably 85% of the repertoire is blues or blues-derived music. All are invited to play or listen. This is also a potluck event\, so bring food to share or your own eats. Donations also accepted to defray costs and support Down By Riverside\, Inc. DESCRIPTION:Feeling depressed\, anxious\, or isolated? You might enjoy Soundbath & Meditation\, hosted by Hendrik Gideonse of Down By Riverside and Kathleen Willis of Dawa Entheogenic Services\, at Arts Collaborative Medford. The primary mission of Down By Riverside is to foster feelings of connectedness and community with music. This program will center on staying present in the moment and creating time and space to relax. Hendrik will focus on the sounds of the soundbath\, a performance of sound or music that is intended to relax\, to spiritually heal\, and to create a meditative state. He will play a gong and singing bowls for about 30 to 35 minutes. Kathleen will focus on meditation and the spiritual practice of the event. Please bring a yoga mat or meditation cushion. There will also be an option to sit in a chair if desired or preferred. \n
