DESCRIPTION:Arts Collaborative Medford presents another Sound Bath & Meditation session hosted by Hendrik Gideonse of Down By Riverside. A sound bath is a performance of sound or music that is intended to relax\, to spiritually heal\, and to create a meditative state. For this month’s session\, Hendrik has a new friction mallet and two new rollers to use along with a gong and singing bowls\, which will expand the soundscape quite a bit. Often the sounds are long\, deep sustained tones and harmonic resonances that happen higher above droning fundamental tones. The sound serves as a focal point for meditation. Instead of trying to focus on nothing or on the breath\, the participant concentrates on the sound as it changes and develops. \nPlease bring a yoga mat or meditation cushion with you. Several people have also brought blankets and pillows. You will get the option to sit in a cushioned chair if desired. Admission is free\, but participants are asked to contribute to the costs of the event by making a donation. Register and donate through the event web page. \n\n\n

There is not a strict blues-only jam rule\, but probably 85% of the repertoire is blues or blues-derived music. All are invited to play or listen. Down By Riverside is putting out a special call to teachers and their students to join the event and is specifically trying to facilitate connections between people with more experience and folks with less experience. This is a potluck event\, so bring food to share or bring you own eats. Beverages will be available for purchase. DESCRIPTION:Down By Riverside\, Inc.\, and Arts Collaborative Medford invite you to Professor Harp’s Classic Blues & Rock ‘n’ Roll Potluck. Although born and raised as Hugh Holmes of Boston\, the emanations from his harmonica and vocals make it clear that Professor Harp has the blues of Texas and the whole wide Delta coursing through his veins. The Professor was a rock ‘n’ roll drummer until 1969\, when the Boston blues revival and a sterling performance he caught of blues harmonica great George Allen “Harmonica” Smith combined to lure him away from drums and into a full-court press on the blues harp. All these years later\, Professor Harp puts forth his commanding presence and exceptional talent\, night after night. This potluck concert is a Pay-What-You-Can show; tickets are free\, but the organizers ask each person to donate to help pay for event expenses if they can. DESCRIPTION:Feeling depressed\, anxious\, or isolated? You might enjoy Soundbath & Meditation\, hosted by Hendrik Gideonse of Down By Riverside and Kathleen Willis of Dawa Entheogenic Services\, at Arts Collaborative Medford. The primary mission of Down By Riverside is to foster feelings of connectedness and community with music. This program will center on staying present in the moment and creating time and space to relax. Hendrik will focus on the sounds of the soundbath\, a performance of sound or music that is intended to relax\, to spiritually heal\, and to create a meditative state. He will play a gong and singing bowls for about 30 to 35 minutes. Kathleen will focus on meditation and the spiritual practice of the event. Please bring a yoga mat or meditation cushion. There will also be an option to sit in a chair if desired or preferred. \n

Born in North Carolina\, Kemp taught himself piano and was writing songs at age 14. He wrote and performed “If Loneliness Was Black” for the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and Complexions Dance Company. Kemp has also composed for WGBH Public Television/Boston.
