DESCRIPTION:Learn about modern poetry with short poems from some of the most celebrated writers of the twentieth century. We’ll listen to or read the poems\, share initial impressions\, and discuss whatever questions or themes emerge. The texts will be provided at the meeting—no homework required! \nIn October we’ll feature Jacques Prévert of France and Bertolt Brecht of Germany. \nThis free salon-style series welcomes everyone—whether you’re well-versed in poetry or simply curious. Drop in for one session or all; each 90-minute meetup stands on its own. Prior experience with poetry will be helpful but isn’t required. An interest in innovative techniques\, tolerance for ambiguity\, and appreciation of different points of view will also be helpful. \nEmphasis will be given to poets who bore witness to social upheaval and shaped modern literature with their responses to historical events. We will take a global perspective and include many writers in different languages who have been translated into English. Participants of all ability levels will begin with basics of sketching or add to their drawing skills\, each in their own sketchbook that is about the size of a smartphone. Sharon’s habit of scrolling on her phone was replaced with her trusty sketchbook and she wants to share the fun that an awareness of surroundings\, building memories and making marks can add to life. This class is designed for anyone who can hold a pen and sketchbook\, and even if you haven’t drawn since childhood\, you can do this. Your class fee covers the cost of two sketchbooks and two micron pens to keep\, one for adult and one for school-aged child. DESCRIPTION:Learn about modern poetry with short poems from some of the most celebrated writers of the twentieth century. We’ll listen to or read the poems\, share initial impressions\, and discuss whatever questions or themes emerge. The texts will be provided at the meeting—no homework required! \nIn September we’ll feature Aimé Césaire of Martinique and Derek Walcott of Saint Lucia. \nThis free salon-style series welcomes everyone—whether you’re well-versed in poetry or simply curious. Drop in for one session or all; each 90-minute meetup stands on its own. Prior experience with poetry will be helpful but isn’t required. An interest in innovative techniques\, tolerance for ambiguity\, and appreciation of different points of view will also be helpful. \nEmphasis will be given to poets who bore witness to social upheaval and shaped modern literature with their responses to historical events. We will take a global perspective and include many writers in different languages who have been translated into English. DESCRIPTION:Free & Open to the Public | RSVP Required\, Must Show at the door. \nThere are two entry times\, please be aware of which time slot you reserve upon check out. When the gallery reaches capacity\, we’ll begin a one-in\, one-out policy to help keep the space comfortable and enjoyable for everyone.  \n  \nAt the end of the night\, when the theatre is empty and the audience has gone\, a single light remains onstage—a quiet marker of presence\, absence\, and all that lingers. Ghost Light brings this spirit into the gallery\, where musicians Sam Kassirer and Josh Ritter step away from the stage and into the roles of photographer and visual artist. Kassirer’s photographs and Ritter’s drawings offer intimate glimpses into the spaces\, moments\, and impressions that exist just beyond the performance. Together\, their work reflects on what we leave behind\, what we carry with us\, and what remains after the lights go down. Join us for the opening reception of Ghost Light and experience these works in person in the company of the artists. For a while\, the stage is empty. The light stays on.
