History Book Group: Collector of Lives

Wednesday, October 20, 2021 @ 7:00 pm

Free

The Medford Historical Society & Museum and the Medford Public Library have chosen “Lives Lived” as the fall theme for their History Book Group, which will take place via Zoom. This evening’s topic is the book “The Collector of Lives: Giorgio Vasari and the Collection of Art” by Ingrid Rowland and Noah Charney. Learn about the achievements of Vasari (1511–1574), a sculptor, painter, architect, writer and scholar, best known for his new genre of artist biography entitled the “Lives of the Artists” (1550). He championed Florentine artists and set the standards by which the “Renaissance” would be understood as an Italian invention.

The talk will be led by Kyna Hamill, a volunteer with MHSM and the Director of the Core Curriculum at Boston University who runs a “Core in Florence” program each winter for students.
