Emily O’Brien Workshop: Music Memorization

Medford musician Emily O’Brien is offering a workshop series, “Memorizing Your Music,” presented via Zoom in three sections over six weeks. Today and next Sunday, December 6, Emily is offering a two-part workshop on Memorization Practice Exercises.  She’ll present a variety of exercises to illustrate the concepts from the lecture and give you some concrete practice exercises and things you can apply to pieces you’re working on.

The final workshop in the series will be a Memorization Boot Camp (Tuesdays, Dec. 1, 8 and 15).

Emily O’Brien is a native of Washington, D.C., where she played recorder from a young age. She studied recorder and french horn at Boston University, and recorder and Baroque flute at the Hochschule für Musik in Karlsruhe, Germany. She performs in recorder ensembles and historical chamber music, as well as English Country Dance bands. As a teacher, she works with private students and ensembles in the Boston area as well as teaching at various summer workshop such as CDSS’s Early Music Week at Pinewoods and Amherst Early Music Festival.
