DESCRIPTION:The City of Medford’s Condon Shell Summer Concert series concludes with Kier Byrnes and the Kettle Burners performing. The Kettle Burners play accordion-infused music from Celtic and polkas to folk and country rock. Winners of a New England Music Award for Americana Act of the Year\, the Kettle Burners have performed at multiple festivals and even shared some bills with a few national acts (Willie Nelson\, Old Crow Medicine Show\, Hank Williams Jr.\, John Mellencamp\, and others). In addition to Byrnes\, the Kettle Burners are Jason McGorty\, Monica Sager\, Joe Miller\, Dan DiBacco and Brian Lilienthal. Crawford\, Nat Decker\, Jeff Kasper\, Carly Mandel\, Jeffrey Meris\, and Libby Paloma—who engage the radical questioning of Korean American writer\, artist\, and musician Johanna Hedva: “How do you throw a brick through the window of a bank if you can’t get out of bed?” to explore how individuals with individuals with disabilities\, chronic illnesses\, and neurodivergence navigate forms of protest despite the normalization of ableism in public spaces. \nLearn more about the event and RSVP using the links below: \nCOMMUNITY RECEPTION\nThursday\, September 4\n6–8PM\n230 Fenway / SMFA at Tufts \nRegister for the Community Reception here. \nThe exhibition is co-organized by Laurel V. DESCRIPTION:Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson will speak at the Chevalier Theatre on September 11. \nKetanji Brown Jackson was born in Washington\, D.C. and grew up in Miami\, Florida. She received her undergraduate and law degrees\, both with honors\, from Harvard University\, then served as a law clerk for three federal judges\, including Associate Justice Stephen G. Breyer of the Supreme Court of the United States. Jackson subsequently practiced law in the private sector\, worked as an attorney\, and later as Vice Chair\, at the U.S. Sentencing Commission\, and served as an assistant federal public defender. In 2013\, President Barack Obama appointed Jackson to the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Elevated to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit in 2021\, Jackson made history in 2022 when President Joseph Biden nominated her as an Associate Justice. The first Black woman ever confirmed to the Supreme Court of the United States\, she took her seat on June 30\, 2022.
