SUMMARY:WuZee Showcase: Eclipse
DESCRIPTION:WuZee\, the only Chinese dance group at Tufts University\, presents its sixth annual spring showcase\, “Eclipse.” Taoists believe that the universe is shaped by opposing forces\, known as yin and yang. Their interaction defines harmony and balance in our lives. This means that within force there is softness\, but there is also softness within force. Eclipse represents the synergy that exists between forces that are antagonistic and polarizing to each other yet are equally necessary. Eclipse occurs when the sun and moon\, two opposing forces\, overlap and fuse to become one. Each of the WuZee dances incorporates the idea of synergy: slow dances have strength within and strong dances have calmness within to create something larger. Join in an afternoon traversing on swords\, fans and parasols to explore the diverse forces that pay homage to Chinese culture. Guest performers include Full Sound. That is the spirit The Porch fosters with its People’s Jam. Bass amp and two guitar amps provided\, along with DIs\, vocal mics and horn mics. Just come in and sign up. Each group of jammers plays three songs and no one repeats until all players have had a turn. Admission is free. SUMMARY:Patriots' Day Celebration
DESCRIPTION:The City of Medford’s annual Patriots’ Day Celebration begins with a 10 a.m. ceremony at the Salem Street Burying Ground between Salem Street and Riverside Avenue at River Street. At 10:30 a.m.\, the celebration moves to historic Medford Square for fun activities\, food and drinks. At 11:30 a.m.\, gather at Captain Isaac Hall’s House (now the Islamic Cultural Center of Medford) at 43 High Street to await the noon arrival of Paul Revere in the reenactment of his historic Midnight Ride from Charlestown to Lexington and Concord. The ICCM will be serving hot chocolate like Abagail Brooks did for the Colonial Minutemen and Militias passing through Medford\, on their way to fight the British. There will also be Colonial dress-up for children and the reading of Longfellow’s poem\, “The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere.” \n
