Formed in Arizona in 1987\, Gin Blossoms rose to prominence following the 1992 release of their first major label album\, “New Miserable Experience\,” and the first single released from that album\, “Hey Jealousy.” Also appearing will be three other bands: Sugar Ray\, Tonic and Fastball. DESCRIPTION:The Medford Historical Society & Museum presents Colby College philosophy professor Lydia Moland for a talk on “A Radical American Life\,” hew new biography of abolitionist Lydia Maria Child\, one of Medford’s most famous 19th-century personalities. Born in 1802\, Child grew up near her father’s famous Medford bakery and would have witnessed evidence of slavery’s legacy in Medford as a young girl. In 1833\, she published a book-length denunciation of slavery and was ostracized by Boston polite society for her radical views. She persisted in fighting for racial equality\, women’s suffrage\, and Native American rights until she died in 1880. Despite this lifetime of activism\, she is best known for immortalizing her Medford childhood in the poem “Over the River and Through the Wood” – a fact whose irony would not have been lost on her. Also\, in between bands\, singer-songwriter Becca Hannah will perform acoustic sets. Her soulful\, jazzy\, alt R&B sound is heavily influenced by various artists such as Amy Winehouse\, Corrine Bailey Rae\, Norah Jones and Carole King. Medford Brewing Company also will be back with a beer garden. The Mystic Music Fest is presented by Robar Therapy Massage.

DESCRIPTION:Medford historian Dee Morris hosts her final 2023 summer walking tour\, “The South Medford Experience\,” where famous horse racing tracks became a community of homes. In the summer of 1866\, two investors threw open the gates of Mystic Trotting Park to a crowd in love with harness racing. The South Medford race track\, supplied with over 100 horses\, fronted on Main Street at Tufts Square. By the 20th century\, these acres evolved into streets filled with comfortable homes owned by Italian American and Irish American families. This lively walking tour will feature many reminders of South Medford’s colorful past. Meet in the Tufts Square parking triangle across the street from the South Medford Fire Station at Zero Medford Street. \nPlease note that this event was rescheduled from its original date of  Saturday\, September 16\, because of the weather forecast. \n
