SUMMARY:Friday Morning Sound Baths with Hendrik
DESCRIPTION:What’s a Soundbath?\nA soundbath is a performance of sound or music which is intended to relax\, to spiritually heal\, and to create a meditative state. Hendrik will play gong and singing bowls for this program. Often the sounds are long\,  sustained tones and harmonic resonances that happen higher above deep droning fundamental tones. The sound serves as a focal point for meditation. Instead of trying to focus on nothing or on the breath\, the participant concentrates on the sound as it changes and develops. \nWhat to Expect:\nPlease bring a yoga mat or meditation cushion with you. People often bring blankets and pillows as well. You will get the option to sit in a cushioned chair if desired. \nProgram Flow\nThere will be an introductory discussion where participants can check in with the group. Lately this has included discussions about stressors\, anxiety and depression. We will do some breathwork to relax a bit before the actual music. The soundbath will last about 60 minutes. After the bath\, we will also have time to discuss the experience\, check in with our community\, and plan how to support each other.

By using light-sensitive chemicals on paper and fabric\, then placing objects like leaves\, flowers\, lace\, jewelry\, and more\, each student will expose their print to the sun’s UV rays in an outdoor space. As you discover new ways to play with music all week long\, you’ll be supporting your child’s music-learning and overall development—even if you don’t think of yourself as a great singer or dancer. \nWhy mixed ages?\nChild development researchers discovered that grouping children of different ages in one class encourages natural\, family-style learning\, so Music Together developed the Mixed-Age Music Class. In this class\, everyone participates at their own levels: babies vocalize\, listen\, and observe; toddlers play and experiment; and preschoolers build confidence as they emerge as classroom leaders. DESCRIPTION:Join The Queer Neighborhood Council (TQNC) for our regular sewing skill share! Whether you’ve never used a sewing machine or you’re an experienced costumer\, let’s craft together in a space centering LGBTQIA+ voices and experiences. \nWhat to expect: \n\nWe’ll kick off the gathering with a brief tutorial on using a sewing machine and follow with open time to practice\, work on projects\, and mingle. Bring that top you’ve been meaning to crop or those pants you’ve been meaning to hem. Bring your favorite piece of clothing that needs to be patched up or altered\, or the elaborate costume you’ve been working on. Or come with nothing at all but excitement to learn a new skill!\nWe will provide basic machines and supplies for attendees. Please note that you may not be guaranteed your own machine to use due to limited supplies\, and you may be partnered with a sewing buddy. (If you have your own machine\, feel free to bring it.)\nA few experienced sewing “guides” will be present to teach and answer questions.\nAll are welcome\, regardless of skill level\, experience\, or identity.\n\nThis program is for adults\, teens\, and children ages 8+. Children below middle school age must be attended by a parent or guardian to help them with their project.  \nYou are encouraged but not required to RSVP for this event! Walk-ins are welcome\, even if you are waitlisted\, though please note that you will likely be sharing a sewing machine if we reach capacity. \nThe library strives to be open and accessible for all.
