He has been publishing poetry since 1988 and making records\, from rock to adaptations of poetry from the public domain since 1992. He has taught English in the public schools of Medford for 27 years. \nAll poets\, dreamers\, and songwriters are invited to bring an original poem\, story\, or song to read or sing. SUMMARY:The Banners Project: A Sewing Circle
DESCRIPTION:Arts Collaborative Medford is hosting The Banners Project: A Sewing Circle\, led by the Green Cambridge program Cambridge Wildlife Arts. Inspired by historical and current protest posters\, banners\, and bedsheet paintings\, including the fabric banners of Aram Han Sifuentes and the block print banners of Peter Schumann\, Cambridge Wildlife Arts welcomes members of the public to sit around a table and stitch a single embroidered and/or appliquéd banner meant for use in vigils\, protests\, and parades. Echoing the suffragettes\, the use of wildlife imagery combined with a single word emphasizing our commonality with nature on the banner emphasizes our resilience and interdependence with each other\, as does the experience of creating something from fiber working in a group or in a circle\, common to many cultures and historical moments. The banner will be worked on in multiple venues and when completed will be used in the Honk! Parade in Somerville/Cambridge in October\, and be lent for use in other events by arrangement. SUMMARY:Sarah Bradlee Fulton Statue Benefit
DESCRIPTION:Looking Back at Medford History\, Inc.\, is presenting an event at the library to raise funds for its ongoing project to commission and install a bronze statue of Sarah Bradlee Fulton\, the Revolutionary War heroine from Medford\, at City Hall. The nonprofit organization has raised about one-half of the needed funds and has hired sculptor Robert Shure of Skylight Studios in Waltham to create the statue. He will bring a 24-inch clay rendering of the statue tonight. Anthony Sammarco\, a noted historian\, lecturer\, and author of more than 60 books on the history and development of Boston\, will be the featured speaker\, delivering a talk on Fulton. There will be a silent auction\, and refreshments. Tax-deductible donations for the Fulton statue may be made through the Looking Back at Medford History website. \n  \n
