As you discover new ways to play with music all week long\, you’ll be supporting your child’s music-learning and overall development—even if you don’t think of yourself as a great singer or dancer. \nWhy mixed ages?\nChild development researchers discovered that grouping children of different ages in one class encourages natural\, family-style learning\, so Music Together developed the Mixed-Age Music Class. In this class\, everyone participates at their own levels: babies vocalize\, listen\, and observe; toddlers play and experiment; and preschoolers build confidence as they emerge as classroom leaders. DESCRIPTION:The backstrap loom is one of the most ancient types of weaving technology\, and is still practiced in cultures all over the world today. This method requires only very simple tools\, but can create an enormous variety of textiles. For modern day crafters\, it combines versatility with portability and low cost – the perfect way to try out weaving when you don’t have space for a big loom!\nIn this class\, we will learn the basic mechanics of using a backstrap loom to produce a warp-faced project. We’ll go through all the steps\, starting with winding the warp and setting up the heddles\, to troubleshooting as you weave. All materials and equipment will be provided\, and you can even keep your loom after the class ends. \nMin/Max Attendees: 4 min\, 12 max \nAges 12+ with an adult. \nEmily O’Brien is a maker and musician. DESCRIPTION:This presentation focuses on the native plants of New England. Plants native to our region will be easier to maintain\, better able to withstand New England weather and may offer better resistance to deer and rabbits. The trees\, shrubs\, and perennials that evolved here will grow here with much less input from you. You will reduce your workload while creating a paradise for the native birds and pollinators. \nAbout the Master Gardener: Gretel Anspach is a Trustee of the Massachusetts Horticultural Society\, a Lifetime Master Gardener with the Massachusetts Master Gardener Association\, and a recently-retired systems engineer for Raytheon. She won the MMGA Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016. Gretel established and maintains a 20\,000 square foot food production garden that has provided fresh produce to the Marlboro and Maynard Food Pantries for the last ten years. Her primary interest and focus is always in the science behind horticulture.

DESCRIPTION:Tired of endlessly scrolling on your phone? Looking to share art and fun with a child in your life? Why not learn a positive habit of keeping a sketchbook by learning together in four sessions with Sharon Santillo. Participants of all ability levels will begin with basics of sketching or add to their drawing skills\, each in their own sketchbook that is about the size of a smartphone. Sharon’s habit of scrolling on her phone was replaced with her trusty sketchbook and she wants to share the fun that an awareness of surroundings\, building memories and making marks can add to life. This class is designed for anyone who can hold a pen and sketchbook\, and even if you haven’t drawn since childhood\, you can do this. Your class fee covers the cost of two sketchbooks and two micron pens to keep\, one for adult and one for school-aged child. Additional materials will be shared in class.\n\nSharon Santillo is a long time art teacher and in 2011 was named Massachusetts Art Educator of the Year. DESCRIPTION:This story hour at the Medford Public Library is for children between the ages of 3-7. We will explore new concepts with books and songs. Parents and caregivers are welcome to join in! Story Time ends with a short craft or activity. \nDuring Family Story Time\, grown-ups are expected to remain in the room and keep an eye on the child(ren) they’re accompanying and are encouraged to engage fully in singing and movement activities. During the craft period\, grown-ups should plan to assist their kid(s) as needed. Family Story Time can sometimes be crowded and loud; depending on the craft\, it can also get a little messy. \nNo registration required.
