DESCRIPTION:The June art exhibition at the Medford Public Library is “Something Other Than\,” a collection of portraits by photographer Michelle Schapiro of LGBTQ+ adults who are a part of the richness of all communities. A 2024 poll revealed that roughly 7.6% of American adults identify as\nsomething other than cisgender heterosexual. Schapiro is a white\, queer\, cis woman whose identities inform a lot of her professional priorities; she makes photos that recognize the beauty in our intersecting identities and don’t cater to just one group. The photo exhibit will be on display in the second-floor gallery all month during regular hours. \n  \n

In January 2017\, Ardern was elected the 40th prime minister of New Zealand at age 37\, becoming the youngest to hold that post in more than 150 years. She held the post until January 2023\, exemplifying a new kind of leadership — proving that leaders can be caring\, empathetic\, and effective. After becoming a global icon\, she’s ready to share the remarkable story of how a Mormon girl plagued by self-doubt made political history and changed our assumptions of what a global leader can be. Joined by moderator Jessica Grose\, an opinion writer for The New York Times\, Ardern will reflect on the struggles\, triumphs\, and deeply personal experiences that shaped her leadership style and what she’s learned along the way.
