DESCRIPTION:On view August 1-27 | EventThem Studios | Visit during studio hours or book a time slot on Eventbrite\nEvery picture tells a story that is waiting to be heard. This exhibition brings a collection of artwork by quite a few artists from India\, curated by Swati Biswas. Swati has been advocating for underprivileged artists since 2020 through online workshops and exhibitions. \nThe stories span across many states\, representing several unique art forms and themes\, complemented by embroidered and hand painted fabric! “Seeing is believing”\, so stop by during the opening reception (August 6\, 6:30 PM) or any other hour when the gallery is open to show your appreciation and support. \nMany of the artwork presented in this workshop are from artists who have taught online workshops. If interested\, connect with us on @artsywayoflife. \nAbout the Artist:\nSwati Biswas a scientist who is working as a medical writer in her day job. However\, she is a trained Indian classical and creative dancer and a passionate advocate for the promotion of music and arts through community engagement. Combining her expertise in dance with a deep appreciation for the visual arts\, she has forged connections with painters and weavers to create costumes and sets for her performances. Some of her curations will be on display in this exhibit.

As you discover new ways to play with music all week long\, you’ll be supporting your child’s music-learning and overall development—even if you don’t think of yourself as a great singer or dancer. \nWhy mixed ages?\nChild development researchers discovered that grouping children of different ages in one class encourages natural\, family-style learning\, so Music Together developed the Mixed-Age Music Class. In this class\, everyone participates at their own levels: babies vocalize\, listen\, and observe; toddlers play and experiment; and preschoolers build confidence as they emerge as classroom leaders. DESCRIPTION:Learn about modern poetry with short poems from some of the most celebrated writers of the twentieth century. We’ll listen to or read the poems\, share initial impressions\, and discuss whatever questions or themes emerge. The texts will be provided at the meeting—no homework required! \nIn August we’ll feature U.S. poets Frank O’Hara and James Schuyler. \nThis free salon-style series welcomes everyone—whether you’re well-versed in poetry or simply curious. Drop in for one session or all; each 90-minute meetup stands on its own. Prior experience with poetry will be helpful but isn’t required. An interest in innovative techniques\, tolerance for ambiguity\, and appreciation of different points of view will also be helpful. \nEmphasis will be given to poets who bore witness to social upheaval and shaped modern literature with their responses to historical events. We will take a global perspective and include many writers in different languages who have been translated into English. Brief introductions to the poets will be offered\, but no stuffy lectures; we’ll make connections and discoveries together through our sharing of questions and observations. \nHosted by Gary Roberts\, a poet and co-founder of Arts Collaborative Medford\, as part of our literary arts initiative. DESCRIPTION:Join Swati Biswas and Shrabasti Roychoudhury for an in-person dance workshop that will teach creative folk-based dance! \n\n\n\n\nThis workshop will be open to dancers and dance enthusiasts of all ages and no prior experience is needed. It is an effort to foster connection and engagement through shared rhythmic experience. Dance is incredibly therapeutic. As a holistic somatic practice\, it combines physical exercise with emotional expression\, to help process trauma\, reduce stress\, and improve mental health. Dancing stimulates the release of dopamine (which boosts motivation and reward)\, serotonin (which stabilizes mood)\, and oxytocin (which promotes connection and trust). \nIn this workshop\, folk based rhythm/ song will be chosen. We will discuss briefly about the dance context/meanings and teach the steps to all attendees.
