SUMMARY:World Poetry Salon
DESCRIPTION:Learn about modern poetry with short poems from some of the most celebrated writers of the twentieth century. We’ll listen to or read the poems\, share initial impressions\, and discuss whatever questions or themes emerge. The texts will be provided at the meeting—no homework required! \nIn July we’ll feature Philippe Jaccottet of France and Lorine Niedecker of the United States. \nThis free salon-style series welcomes everyone—whether you’re well-versed in poetry or simply curious. Drop in for one session or all; each 90-minute meetup stands on its own. Prior experience with poetry will be helpful but isn’t required. An interest in innovative techniques\, tolerance for ambiguity\, and appreciation of different points of view will also be helpful. \nEmphasis will be given to poets who bore witness to social upheaval and shaped modern literature with their responses to historical events. We will take a global perspective and include many writers in different languages who have been translated into English. Brief introductions to the poets will be offered\, but no stuffy lectures; we’ll make connections and discoveries together through our sharing of questions and observations. \nHosted by Gary Roberts\, a poet and co-founder of Arts Collaborative Medford\, as part of our literary arts initiative. Bring your coffee\, tea\, or notebook and join us for a relaxed\, open conversation about how poetry can reflect\, resist\, and reimagine the world around us.

SUMMARY:The Quiet Language of Fire
DESCRIPTION:Five Artists. One Material. A Conversation about Clay & Transformation\nA Drawn Together Circle\nRev. Wendy Miller Olapade\, facilitating \nThe Big Idea: From The Same Earth reminds us that common ground does not require sameness. Clay becomes the meeting place where earth\, hand\, patience\, and fire reveal the beauty of distinct voices shaped from a shared source. \nDescription:\nThere is a quiet kind of power in clay. It does not rush. It receives the hand. It bears pressure. It waits for fire. And then somehow\, it becomes. In From the Same Earth\, five local ceramicists begin with a shared material\, yet what emerges is beautifully distinct. \nThrough varied forms\, surfaces\, vessels\, and sculptural gestures\, the exhibition reveals the remarkable range of possibility within a single medium. Each artist listens to clay differently\, shaping work that carries its own texture\, presence\, and voice. Together\, the pieces remind us that common ground does not require sameness. \nFor this Drawn Together Circle\, we will slow down with the work and consider what clay can teach us about process\, patience\, transformation\, and the many ways different voices can rise from the same earth. Join us for a welcoming\, reflective conversation with the art\, the artists\, and one another. No art background is needed. Bring your curiosity\, your attention\, and your willingness to listen for the quiet language of fire.

SUMMARY:Celebrating America's 250th: Two Nerdy History Girls Discuss Everyday Life in 1776 (Zoom Program)
DESCRIPTION:We’re at it again! We keep having so much fun with Loretta and Susan that we had to keep bringing them back for encore performances. And\, this time\, they are focusing on the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. They are so knowledgeable about the everyday lives of people who lived through this era as well as how war could upend those lives. We know that\, as always\, we’ll have a great conversation and learn so much about how this historic happening affected every aspect of people’s lives. \n  \nYou know them as the Two Nerdy History Girls – authors Loretta Chase and Susan Holloway Scott were the originators of the infamous blog. We\, once again\, have Loretta and Susan here to answer all of our burning questions about the 250th. How do they do their research\, how much of it comes out of their visits to Colonial Williamsburg\, and how do they incorporate their knowledge into their writing? We can’t wait for what we know is going to be a fascinating conversation between these two friends and researchers. \n  \nClick here to register for this program! \nAbout the presenters: \nLoretta Chase has worked in academe\, retail\, and the visual arts\, as well as on the streets—as a meter maid—and in video\, as a scriptwriter. She might have developed an excitingly checkered career had her spouse not nagged her into writing fiction. Her bestselling historical romances\, set in the Regency and Romantic eras of the early nineteenth century\, have won a number of awards\, including the Romance Writers of America’s RITA® and Vivian®. For more about her past\, her books\, and what she does and doesn’t do on social media\, please visit her website. \nSusan Holloway Scott is the author of over fifty historical novels and novellas. Her bestselling books have received numerous awards and honors\, and with more than four million copies of her books in print\, she has been published in nineteen foreign countries around the world. She has also written under the pseudonyms Isabella Bradford and Miranda Jarrett. \nSusan is a graduate of Brown University\, and lives with her family in a book-filled house outside of Philadelphia\, PA. \nCheck out the previous posts on Two Nerdy History Girls Blog! \nPlease register for this event and you’ll receive the link in the confirmation and reminder emails – make sure to check your spam folder for them\, the email will be coming from Zoom. Due to limited space\, if you know you cannot make it live do not register with zoom but please fill out this form to receive the video link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfyq2AmqS0ZCs9t_9Ck4D2B2jtX9MHnd6oTMUqMO1IHw7jNjg/viewform \nThis program is sponsored by the Friends of the Ashland Public Library and we’re thrilled to be collaborating with a multitude of MA Libraries to bring this program to our communities. We are also pleased to be partnering with the Ashland Senior Center for this event. \nThe library strives to be open and accessible for all. If you need accommodations to attend this program\, please be sure to register. There is a follow-up question that will help us understand how we can include you in our programs.

SUMMARY:Joe Jackson + Band - Hope and Fury Tour 2026
DESCRIPTION:British singer\, songwriter\, composer\, and pianist Joe Jackson brings his decades-spanning catalog to the stage for a sold-out performance. Born in Burton-on-Trent and raised in Portsmouth\, Jackson first broke through with his 1979 debut album Look Sharp\, launching a career defined by constant reinvention\, sharp musicianship\, and restless creative range. \nFrom the new wave bite of Look Sharp and I’m the Man to the sophisticated pop of Night and Day\, the swing-inspired Jumpin’ Jive\, and later ambitious works like Heaven and Hell\, Symphony No. 1\, The Duke\, and What A Racket\, Jackson has built one of modern music’s most eclectic bodies of work. His music has moved fluidly through rock\, jazz\, swing\, Latin rhythms\, classical composition\, film scoring\, and theatrical songcraft. \nA Grammy-winning artist and acclaimed author of A Cure for Gravity\, Jackson continues to tour internationally\, splitting his time between New York\, Portsmouth\, and Berlin. His upcoming album Hope and Fury is set for release in April 2026\, accompanied by extensive touring in the United States and Europe.
