DESCRIPTION:The Medford Historical Society & Museum presents author Anthony Sammarco for a talk at the library on his book “Inferno: The Great Boston Fire of 1872.” The fire destroyed 65 acres of land in Boston\, from Washington Street\, between Summer and Milk Streets\, fanning eastward toward the wharves projecting into Boston Harbor. The fire is said to have destroyed 776 buildings in Boston’s downtown\, causing of $73 million in damage ($1.682 billion in 2022 dollars) and killing an estimated 20 people\, leading to stricter building regulations in Boston. SUMMARY:Exhibition Opening: Shapes of Nature by Estrid Eklof
DESCRIPTION:The Medford Public Library opens its art exhibition for November-December\, “Shapes From Nature: Paintings Sensing Nature\,” featuring the work of Medford resident Estrid Eklof. Eklof’s paintings are based on a many layered water color foundation\, often with graphite and Conté stick marks added. “Twig Series” was inspired by the restless patterns of pine needles and broken twigs found in snow. “Shadow Series” was inspired by the quiet patterns made on sand from scrub pine trees. \nThis is the first Massachusetts exhibit for Eklof\, a relative newcomer to Medford. Some of her past exhibits in Connecticut were at the Art Alliance of New Britain Gallery\, Hartford Fine Art Gallery\, New Britain Museum of American Art (juried)\, Essex Art Association\, and Canton Gallery on the Green (juried). \n“Shapes From Nature” is on view in the library’s second-floor gallery during regular hours. \n  \n
