Admission to the Slave Quarters\, which also houses the archaeological exhibit\, gift shop\, and restrooms\, is free of charge. No reservations are required for groups of fewer than 10 people. Groups of 10 or more are considered group tours and must have a reservation. Visit the Group Tours page on the RHSQ website for group rates and scheduling. \nIn the 18th century\, the Royall House & Slave Quarters was home to the largest slaveholding family in Massachusetts and the enslaved Africans who made their lavish way of life possible. DESCRIPTION:The Medford-Brooks Estate Land Trust (M-BELT) is seeking volunteers for its its annual Brooks Estate Fall Cleanup\, to assist with maintenance of the trails and grounds on the city’s historic property. Help is needed with sweeping the boardwalk to Brooks Pond; cleaning/scrubbing the sign by the pond; trimming growth along paths and drive; basic landscaping around the Shepherd Brooks Manor\, like mowing the lawn; and general trash pickup. M-BELT will provide gloves\, bags\, cleaning supplies\, brooms\, plus some loppers and trimmers. If you have supplies like gardening clippers\, please bring them. Please let M-BELT know if you’ll be joining the cleanup by filling out this online form. Check out other volunteer opportunities within that form as well. \nParking note: Do not park in Oak Grove Cemetery or on Grove Street; best to park on nearby side streets off of Grove Street and walk up the access drive to the estate. Limited spaces are available at the Boardwalk lot along the access drive\, and at the Manor\, with preference at the Manor for handicapped parking. \nM-BELT is a nonprofit organization that manages the Brooks Estate\, owned by the City of Medford. Free and open to all ages. \nThe Brooks Estate is a city-owned environmental and historical treasure in West Medford that offers Brooks Pond and 50 acres of open space for birds\, wildlife and nature lovers. As the manager\, nonprofit M-BELT has spearheaded the protection and restoration of the property\, which includes the 1880 Manor and Carriage House. These Victorian gems are under renovation as community assets.

Admission for guided tours of the mansion is $10 for adults; $8 for seniors; $5 for students; $2 for EBT or WIC cardholders; and free for children age 12 and under\, Tufts University students\, Blue Star Families\, and Massachusetts Teachers Association members or retirees. Admission to the Slave Quarters\, which also houses the archaeological exhibit\, gift shop\, and restrooms\, is free of charge. Groups of 10 or more can arrange private tours for weekdays or Saturday mornings. \nIn the eighteenth century\, the Royall House & Slave Quarters was home to the largest slaveholding family in Massachusetts and the enslaved Africans who made their lavish way of life possible. Today\, the Royall House & Slave Quarters is a museum whose architecture\, household items\, archaeological artifacts\, and programs bear witness to intertwined stories of wealth and bondage\, set against the backdrop of America’s quest for independence. The Slave Quarters is the only remaining such structure in the northern United States\, and the Royall House is among the finest colonial-era buildings in New England.

DESCRIPTION:It’s time for the Medford-Brooks Estate Land Trust’s annual Spring Spruce-up and Open House event. Come lend a hand\, working on outdoor and indoor tasks\, including some painting\, anytime between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Gloves and tools provided\, but additional loppers\, rakes\, etc.\, welcome. Wear work clothes. Tours of the Shepherd Brooks Manor will commence at 2 p.m.\, with the last tour at 3:40 p.m. Please email inquiries@brooksestate.org to RSVP or with questions. \nParking note: Do not park in Oak Grove Cemetery or on Grove Street; best to park on nearby side streets off of Grove Street and walk up the access drive to the estate. Limited spaces are available at the Boardwalk lot along the access drive\, and at the Manor\, with preference at the Manor for handicapped parking. \nM-BELT is a nonprofit organization that manages the Brooks Estate\, owned by the City of Medford. A former Victorian summer retreat for Peter Chardon Brooks and Shepherd Brooks\, the property is graced by two Victorian buildings\, the Shepherd Brooks Manor and Carriage House (1880)\, both slated for adaptive re-use as community assets. The property also offers Brooks Pond and 50 acres of open space for birds\, wildlife and nature lovers.
