SUMMARY:Exhibition Opening: Chris Rose - Surrealist Art Show
DESCRIPTION:This month’s art exhibition at the Medford Public Library is “Surrealist Art Show” featuring the work of Chris Rose\, a painter and visual artist from\nMedford. Although in his art practice he draws mainly from life\, for this show Rose has brought together a selection of works that are abstract\,\nnon-representational\, or surreal. They were made over a span of years\, with different methods and meanings in mind\, rather than as part of a series. They are unified by a delight in lateral thinking and a belief that art can communicate ideas that could not be conveyed through language alone. Rose’s work will be on display in the library’s second-floor gallery throughout March during regular library hours. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Exhibition Opening Reception: The Threads That Ties Us
DESCRIPTION:Arts Collaborative Medford invites you to a gathering to usher in the start of its 2025 gallery season featuring the textile-based exhibition “The Threads That Tie Us.” The nine participating Greater Boston artists pull and snag from their environments to create new stories\, ones that reconstruct history and reclaim the language of fabric. Each piece in the exhibition speaks to an experience and a journey. Viewers are invited into the fold to engage with their own histories and discover the ties that connect us as humans. Embroidery\, quilting\, tufting — it is all a discourse to communicate our woven histories. Participating artists are Sophie Weston Chien\, Samantha Fields\, Anna Fubini\, Rania Abdalla Kadafour\, Alex Kalil\, Valarie Portier\, Allison Rabin\, Lois Russell and Christine Willis. The exhibition will be on view from January 17 through March 28.

SUMMARY:Colleen Green's Feelin' Chili's Crispy Art Show at Deep Cuts
DESCRIPTION:Deep Cuts is hosting a one-day display of “Feelin’ Chili’s Crispy\,” a collection of paintings\, sculptures\, drawings\, and video by Lowell artist Colleen Green. Green writes\, “The collection takes an irreverent\, humorous\, and sardonic look at the culture of American consumption\, capitalism\, homogenization\, and privilege\, while at the same time being a celebration of these very things which most of us\, whether we like it or not\, willingly indulge in. This show is the second thought that the inhabitants of the developed world seldom give to the habits of spending\, wasting\, and general frivolity. On the other hand\, what the heck else are we supposed to do? If something is there to be enjoyed\, we may as well enjoy it and that is what I hope everyone who comes to see this art show does.” The art will be displayed all day today\, and Green will be on hand for a reception at 7 p.m. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Exhibit Opening Reception: Scavengers
DESCRIPTION:Arts Collaborative Medford invites you to an opening reception for “Scavengers\,” a showcase and pop-up library celebrating the resourcefulness of artists\, their ability to use anything as a tool for creating\, and their drive to create anywhere and everywhere. Scavengers know that anything can be made into art\, creating a world based on community resource rather than exclusion. This exhibition\, organized by artists Dominique Litif-Nelson and PHEEBZ\, includes sketchbooks\, objects\, signs\, and stickers by 30 artists. It is a celebration of outsider artists who don’t rely on the systems in place in order to create. They can bring their passion anywhere and everywhere\, in turn bringing art to anyone and everyone.
