SUMMARY:2026 SMFA at Tufts MFA Thesis Exhibition Public Reception
DESCRIPTION:Join us in celebrating the 2026 MFA graduates during a public reception for “Passages\,” on Friday\, May 15. \n\n\n\n\nOn view May 5–17 at Tufts University Art Galleries in Medford\, the 2026 MFA Thesis Exhibition Passages presents presents work by nineteen MFA candidates\, showcasing their richly varied practices and development in the MFA program. The exhibition’s title speaks to the journey each student has undergone\, in art and in life\, forming a conceptual throughline for the works on view. \nA passage may be a voyage of exploration\, a narrow path\, or the simple\, inevitable passing of time. Artists engage with these topics across a range of media\, reflecting their ability to look within and outside themselves\, traversing concepts that range from the microscopic to the geopolitical. \nPassages is guest curated by ICA Boston Assistant Curator Max Gruber and organized by Alexi Antoniadis\, Dina Deitsch\, Madeline Ditzler\, Laurel Nakadate\, Sarah Prickett\, and Kenson Truong. \nJoin us in celebrating the 2025 MFA graduates during a public reception on Friday\, May 15 from 5-8PM at TUAG / Medford (Aidekman Arts Center).

SUMMARY:"Defunded/Defunked!" Exhibition Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the opening reception of Defunded/Defunked!—an energetic and thought-provoking exhibition curated by and featuring artists from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University. \nThis exhibition explores what it means to create\, resist\, and find joy within systems shaped by scarcity\, excess\, and shifting cultural values. Light refreshments will be provided. Come be part of a night that invites reflection\, rebellion\, and a little bit of defunking. \nCurator: Mai Pham \nArtists: Co & Lee – Dana Colston – Daria Jin – Diego Gonzalez – Elan Cohen –  Helena Abdelnasser – J Grace Giordano – Julia McGhean – Kai Barker Dennet – Kalim Fernandes – Mai Pham – Maryamma Blankson – Matilda Love – Mikey Sims – Paola Michelle Silva Lizarrage – Paul Fauller – Shiyeon Ku – Young One

SUMMARY:Beverly Semmes: Boulders / Flag / Flip / Kick Artist Conversation + Reception
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a public conversation at 6PM at TUAG / Medford (Aidekman Arts Center) with exhibiting artist Beverly Semmes\, exhibition curator TUAG Director Dina Deitsch\, and Camilo Alvarez followed by a reception celebrating the exhibition. \nTufts/SMFA alumna Beverly Semmes (BA/BFA ’82) has built an extensive practice in sculpture\, painting\, film\, performance\, and fashion that probes the paradoxes and complexities of the body and its representation. Best known for her oversized dress sculptures\, begun in the early 1990s—followed by her FRP (Feminist Responsibility Project) series of over-painted pornographic images and clay sculptures—Semmes has played with the scale\, exposure or covering\, and abstraction of the female form for over three decades. \nYou can RSVP and learn more here.
