DESCRIPTION:On view August 1-27 | EventThem Studios | Visit during studio hours or book a time slot on Eventbrite\nEvery picture tells a story that is waiting to be heard. This exhibition brings a collection of artwork by quite a few artists from India\, curated by Swati Biswas. Swati has been advocating for underprivileged artists since 2020 through online workshops and exhibitions. \nThe stories span across many states\, representing several unique art forms and themes\, complemented by embroidered and hand painted fabric! “Seeing is believing”\, so stop by during the opening reception (August 6\, 6:30 PM) or any other hour when the gallery is open to show your appreciation and support. \nMany of the artwork presented in this workshop are from artists who have taught online workshops. If interested\, connect with us on @artsywayoflife. \nAbout the Artist:\nSwati Biswas a scientist who is working as a medical writer in her day job. However\, she is a trained Indian classical and creative dancer and a passionate advocate for the promotion of music and arts through community engagement. Combining her expertise in dance with a deep appreciation for the visual arts\, she has forged connections with painters and weavers to create costumes and sets for her performances. Some of her curations will be on display in this exhibit.

DESCRIPTION:This story hour at the Medford Public Library is for children between the ages of 3-7. We will explore new concepts with books and songs. Parents and caregivers are welcome to join in! Story Time ends with a short craft or activity. \nDuring Family Story Time\, grown-ups are expected to remain in the room and keep an eye on the child(ren) they’re accompanying and are encouraged to engage fully in singing and movement activities. During the craft period\, grown-ups should plan to assist their kid(s) as needed. Family Story Time can sometimes be crowded and loud; depending on the craft\, it can also get a little messy. \nNo registration required.

SUMMARY:Indian Dance Class
DESCRIPTION:Join Swati Biswas and Shrabasti Roychoudhury for an in-person dance workshop that will teach creative folk-based dance! \n\n\n\n\nThis workshop will be open to dancers and dance enthusiasts of all ages and no prior experience is needed. It is an effort to foster connection and engagement through shared rhythmic experience. Dance is incredibly therapeutic. As a holistic somatic practice\, it combines physical exercise with emotional expression\, to help process trauma\, reduce stress\, and improve mental health. Dancing stimulates the release of dopamine (which boosts motivation and reward)\, serotonin (which stabilizes mood)\, and oxytocin (which promotes connection and trust). \nIn this workshop\, folk based rhythm/ song will be chosen. We will discuss briefly about the dance context/meanings and teach the steps to all attendees.
