DESCRIPTION:Each week in Music Together® Mixed-Age Classes at Joyful Music\, babies\, toddlers\, preschoolers\, and the grownups who love them® gather for 45 minutes of fun-filled family music time. Your teacher will lead you and the other families in music activities ranging from lullabies to full-on jam sessions (with child-friendly instruments\, of course!). It’s so much fun you won’t realize how much learning is taking place! \nYou’ll take home the award-winning music used in class\, along with an illustrated songbook and other resources. As you discover new ways to play with music all week long\, you’ll be supporting your child’s music-learning and overall development—even if you don’t think of yourself as a great singer or dancer. \nWhy mixed ages?\nChild development researchers discovered that grouping children of different ages in one class encourages natural\, family-style learning\, so Music Together developed the Mixed-Age Music Class. In this class\, everyone participates at their own levels: babies vocalize\, listen\, and observe; toddlers play and experiment; and preschoolers build confidence as they emerge as classroom leaders. Grownups are happy because everyone can come to class together!

SUMMARY:On Waiting with AIDS: “Gay Waiter” Jokes and the Discriminating Tastes of New American Cuisine\, with Jo Michael Rezes
DESCRIPTION:CHAT invites you to join us on April 8 at noon to hear from dissertation fellow Jo Michael Rezes for an original presentation featuring current research. \nJo Michael Rezes (they/them/theirs) is a theatremaker and educator in the Greater Boston Area. Their dissertation\, “Tastes Like AIDS: Sweet Aesthetics\, Bitter Humor\, and Viral Performances of HIV/AIDS “ examines the sensorial and affective dimensions of HIV/AIDS representations through taste—exploring how sweetness and bitterness structure cultural responses to queerness\, race\, and illness across transnational media. Their work taste-tests theatre\, visual art\, and archival ephemera to critique the colonial residues and nationalistic anxieties embedded in “AIDS flavors.” They have published writing in Polari Press\, Refinery29\, and Texas Theatre Journal with forthcoming chapters in Milestones in Queer US Theatre (Routledge)\, Visual Histories of Humour\, Health\, and the Body (Manchester University Press)\, Queers at the Table (Arsenal Pulp)\, and the Methuen Drama Book of Trans Plays (vol. 3). Online\, Jo is a TED Official Speaker (“A Playful Exploration of Gender Performance”) and runs an online cooking show (Jiffy Mae’s Sick Kitchen) with a cookbook in development featuring recipes found in queer\, chronically ill (and online) food cultures. \nBefore joining CHAT\, Jo was a Robyn Gittleman Graduate Teaching Fellow with the Tufts Experimental College. There\, Rezes has taught their course “Camp: Bad Taste\, Humor\, and Cult Classics” three times. As an instructor\, they received the award for Outstanding Contributions to Undergraduate Education from the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences in 2022. Since then\, Rezes has held positions as Lecturer in Theatre at Boston College\, Affiliated Faculty in the MA/MFA Applied Theatre & Theatre Education program at Emerson College\, and Teaching Fellow at Harvard University. Most recently\, they serve as the Curriculum Developer for The Theater Offensive’s nationally recognized True Colors programs for queer and trans youth. DESCRIPTION:This story hour at the Medford Public Library is for children between the ages of 3-7. We will explore new concepts with books and songs. Parents and caregivers are welcome to join in! Story Time ends with a short craft or activity. \nDuring Family Story Time\, grown-ups are expected to remain in the room and keep an eye on the child(ren) they’re accompanying and are encouraged to engage fully in singing and movement activities. During the craft period\, grown-ups should plan to assist their kid(s) as needed. Family Story Time can sometimes be crowded and loud; depending on the craft\, it can also get a little messy. \nNo registration required.
