SUMMARY:Family Story Time at the Medford Public Library
DESCRIPTION:This story hour at the Medford Public Library is for children between the ages of 3-7. We will explore new concepts with books and songs. Parents and caregivers are welcome to join in! Story Time ends with a short craft or activity. \nDuring Family Story Time\, grown-ups are expected to remain in the room and keep an eye on the child(ren) they’re accompanying and are encouraged to engage fully in singing and movement activities. During the craft period\, grown-ups should plan to assist their kid(s) as needed. Family Story Time can sometimes be crowded and loud; depending on the craft\, it can also get a little messy. \nNo registration required.

SUMMARY:Tween Graphic Novel Book Club
DESCRIPTION:For readers ages 10-14. Located at the Medford Public Library.\n \nThis month\, we’re reading Pearl by Sherri L. Smith. \nAmy is a thirteen-year-old Japanese-American girl who lives in Hawaii. When her great-grandmother falls ill\, Amy travels to visit family in Hiroshima for the first time. But this is 1941. When the Japanese navy attacks Pearl Harbor\, it becomes impossible for Amy to return to Hawaii. Conscripted into translating English radio transmissions for the Japanese army\, Amy struggles with questions of loyalty and fears about her family amidst rumors of internment camps in America — even as she makes a new best friend and\, over the years\, Japan starts to feel something like home. Torn between two countries at war\, Amy must figure out where her loyalties lie and\, in the face of unthinkable tragedy\, find hope in the rubble of a changed world. \nThe book is available for pickup in the at the Children’s Desk or in the Teen Room. \nTween Graphic Novel Book Club will meet in Youth Services Study Room 3 (Large Study Room). \nSign up is required for this program.
